The Power of Silence in Leadership: Knowing When to Speak and When to Be Still


In a world where everyone feels compelled to speak, post, and respond, silence can be misunderstood. But in leadership, silence is often the very thing that safeguards our vision, our peace, and our blessings.

I wrote The Power of Silence: Safeguarding God’s Blessings during a season when I realized that not every victory needs to be announced, and not every battle requires a response. As leaders, we sometimes talk too soon, share too much, or explain things that God never told us to explain.

There is strength in discretion. There is wisdom in waiting. There is power in knowing when to keep quiet.

As leaders, we must discern the difference between visibility and vulnerability. Some doors are meant to open quietly. Some battles are won in silence. Jesus, our ultimate model of leadership, stood silent before His accusers because He understood that purpose doesn’t need permission or applause to be fulfilled.

As one month closes and another begins, I find myself reminded that endings are never wasted. The turning of a calendar is more than a date, it’s an invitation to pause, reflect, and prepare for what’s next. We often underestimate the power of transitions. A simple page flip in time can carry with it both the weight of what we’ve left behind and the promise of what we’re about to embrace. Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” That truth steadies me. Seasons change, and so do we. True Friendship Is Hard to Find

The older I get, the more I see how rare real friendship actually is. Not the type where people check in here and there, or show up when it’s convenient, or only stay close as long as they feel comfortable. I mean the kind of friendship that feels steady… the kind that feels safe… the kind where you don’t have to wonder if someone is secretly competing with you or comparing their life to yours. We live in a time where so many connections are surface-level. People will smile with you but feel something different underneath.
